EXAMINATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LOCAL REVENUE MOBILISATION AND SERVICE DELIVERY IN MITYANA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL , CENTRAL UGANDA.

Abstract

Background

This study aims to document the relationship between local revenue mobilisation and service delivery in Mityana Municipal Council, Central Uganda. Local revenue is defined as the sub-total of all categories collected from a number of sources like market dues, fines and penalties, parking fees, rent, and rates.. Service delivery can be defined as any contact with the public administration during which customers, citizens, residents, or enterprises seek services from public offices. Services delivered include health, water, electricity, and roads, among others. With efficiency in resource mobilization within local government, local revenue resources would significantly contribute to local council service delivery in developing countries such as Uganda. Local Revenue management is a devolved responsibility to local governments, which has been viewed as an instrument for addressing problems of providing and maintaining public services. In Mityana, the municipality has a wide range of local revenue management systems, for example, including e-logrev. Therefore, this study seeks to establish the relationship between local revenue mobilisation and service delivery in Mityana Municipal Council, Central Uganda.

 Methodology

The study used a descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional research design. Further, it adopted both quantitative and qualitative research approaches, hence a mixed research design.

 Results

The study documents the relationship between local revenue mobilisation and service delivery in Mityana Municipal Council, Central Uganda, at 95.2% which is high above the average.

 Conclusion                                                                      

The rate at which revenue mobilisation and service delivery relates in Mityana Municipal Council, Central Uganda is high above average.

 Recommendation

Information about the cost of local revenue collection should not be confidential. The responsible people working in the municipal offices should not fear disclosing any information regarding service delivery to the people within the municipality.
